Beating the Heat: Sal’s Summer Graduation Photos at FSU

This summer, I had the pleasure of working with Sal to capture his graduation portraits on Florida State University’s campus. He booked the Basic Grad Package, which includes 30 minutes of shoot time and one location. So naturally, we chose the iconic Westcott Fountain.

We met on a weekday morning at 9 a.m., just before FSU’s summer graduation ceremony. Surprisingly, the campus was calm and quiet; ideal for moving freely and taking clean, crowd-free shots. But the heat? That was another story.

Tallahassee has been experiencing one of its hottest summers on record, and this session was no exception. Despite the sweltering temps, Sal powered through with a smile and a calm energy that made the session a joy. Dressed in full regalia and multiple cords celebrating his academic achievements, he posed confidently as we worked quickly and efficiently to beat the sun.

We captured all the classic moments: cap tosses, full gown portraits, and a few relaxed shots without the gown. Though we were both feeling the heat, you’d never know it from the final images. Sal’s photos turned out clean, timeless, and full of pride. A true testament to pushing through challenging conditions for a meaningful milestone.
